Apply now for 2014 national internships

The application season for summer internships is in full swing. NASA and its partners sponsor a wide variety of programs for graduate and undergraduate students to participate in hands-on, cutting edge science and engineering projects.

NASA One Stop Shopping Initiative: SOLAR is the main gateway to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to do research with top NASA scientists. SOLAR applications will accepted until March 1, 2014. Keep in mind applications are being reviewed continuously; the earlier you apply, the better your chances of being matched.

Some programs have earlier deadlines. For instance, the deadline for the Lunar and Planetary Institute’s highly competitive internships is January 17, 2014. LPI interns work one-on-one with scientists at the institute or at the NASA Johnson Space Center on a research project of current interest in lunar and planetary science.

Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars Program (LARSS) offers internships to rising juniors and seniors pursuing degrees in aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, computer science, atmospheric science or other selected aerospace disciplines of interest to the NASA Langley Research Center. The deadline is February 1, 2014.

Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) offers summer projects for students interested in working on NASA missions or space-related research opportunities. The deadline is January 27, 2014.

And don’t forget to check the WSGC website after the first of the year for internship opportunities here in Washington state.
